In
Memory of Janet Miles-Maestas, PA
November 2, 1952 – June 10, 2011
Our dear friend and co-worker, Janet
Miles-Maestas, passed away after a very brave but brief battle with
brain cancer. She is remembered with fondness and respect for her
dedication to her patients at FEM Centre. Janet’s kind nature endeared
people to her because they could tell she truly cared about them as
individuals. She took the time to get to know her patients and they
immediately sensed her sincerity and warmth. She is dearly missed by
everyone at FEM Centre.
Janet was a Physician Assistant who
graduated from the first PA program at the University of North Texas
Health Science Center in Fort Worth in 1999. She spent the first five
years after graduation as a PA in Family Practice in Hillsboro and
Whitney, Texas. In 2004 she transitioned to her true
calling—bio-identical hormone treatment for women and men. She worked at
the Hotze Health and Wellness Center in Katy, Texas. Janet was one of
the few to become certified from the, “American Academy of Biologically
Identical Hormone Therapy”. She also worked at the Roby Institute in
Austin, Texas before joining FEM Centre in 2009.
Janet had a
passion for nutrition and wellness. She received a Master's degree in
Nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin. Her 20 years of
experience in this field includes work in nutrition in Guatemala, public
health nutrition in New Mexico, where she wrote the lactating manual for
women in Spanish, which eventual became a model for other states in the
United States. During her career, Janet also worked as a PA and a
Nutritionist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She taught at Tarleton
State University in Stephenville, Texas and set up their national
accreditation program in nutrition. Janet felt her nutrition background
complemented her work as a Physician Assistant.
