FEM
Centre’s Personalized Care
As we age, the prevention and rapid
correction of ailments becomes so important. Gynecologic care at the FEM Centre includes not only a physical examination, but time to learn
more about your self and your body. Answering your questions and
addressing your concerns is a cornerstone of the FEM Centre approach to
women’s health. The FEM Centre takes into account your overall health.
At the FEM Centre, your evaluation includes an
assessment of:
At the FEM Centre, pelvic structures such as
the uterus and ovaries are thoroughly evaluated using vaginal sonograms
on each patient. A routine ultrasound-enhanced pelvic exam permits
visualization of the uterus, its lining, and the ovaries. Fibroids,
abnormalities of the uterine lining, and ovarian tumors can be
discovered earlier and dealt with in a timely fashion.
Midlife brings the concerns of developing
cancer (especially breast cancer), and age-related changes in your
body. A careful monthly breast self-exam combined with an annual exam by
a physician and appropriate thermograms/mammograms forms a protective triad against
this all too common illness.
In some instances, a surgical remedy is the
only alternative that will allow you to lead a productive life. Pelvic
surgeons are now able to correct many surgical problems using minimally
invasive procedures.
For those who suffer debilitating heavy
menstrual flows not related to uterine structural abnormalities, the FEM Centre offers a “thermal balloon” treatment of the uterine lining.
This does not use a general anesthetic and involves no
incisions. A special balloon is inflated inside the uterine cavity and
hot water is then circulated through the balloon. The uterine lining is
thermally destroyed; menstrual flows in the majority of cases either
cease or dramatically decrease. You go home in a couple of hours after
the procedure!
The FEM Centre also uses pelviscopy or
laproscopic surgery to correct many of the gynecologic conditions that
seem to occur with aging. For instance, Laproscopic Supracervical
Hysterectomies (LASH) allows a hysterectomy to be performed using only
small
incisions. The cervix is not removed because of its important role in
pelvic support and sexual sensation. FEM Centre data indicates that
women who have had a LASH can return to work in 7 to 11 days. This is
sometimes referred to as the “painless hysterectomy.”
Childbirth can lead to a decrease in pelvic
tissue strength resulting in collapse of pelvic structures. You may
experience increasing pressure sensations while standing, a noticeable
bulge or prolapse in the vaginal area, or embarrassing loss of urine
with exercise, coughing, or routine activities. Correcting these
problems can, in many instances, be accomplished using laproscopic
techniques. Instead of taking weeks with standard pelvic surgery,
recovery from laproscopic surgery is measured in days.
Gynecologic care at the FEM Centre permits
early detection and treatment of physical problems. Surgical solutions
may be required in order for you to experience total health and wellness. Laproscopy and the uterine balloon are examples of innovative techniques
that correct pelvic problems—allowing a rapid return to normal
activities.
